Sixers hold off Heat, close out series with win: recap, stats, highlights from Game 5 in NBA Playoffs

PHILADELPHIA -- The Philadelphia 76ers have the opportunity to close out their first round series against the Miami Heat on Tuesday night at the Wells Fargo Center.
The No. 3-seed Sixers edged out a win at the No. 6-seed Heat over the weekend to give them a commanding 3-1 series lead. If they win to advance to the Eastern Conference Semifinals, it will be the first time the Sixers have clinched a series at home since their last series victory against the Chicago Bulls in 2012.
In their first taste of playoff action, players such as Joel Embiid, Ben Simmons and Dario Saric have acquitted themselves well, while recent veteran acquisitions such as JJ Redick, Marco Belinelli and Ersan Ilyasova have provided an extra boost.

10:43 p.m.: The Sixers are headed to the second round of the Eastern Conference playoffs for the first time since 2012.
Though the Heat stuck around, Miami never got within less than eight points of tieing the game in the fourth quarter. Marco Belinelli and J.J. Redick hit crucial shots on consecutive possessions with about two minutes left to stomp out the Heat's last-ditch effort. Philly won Tuesday, 104-91, and closed out a 4-1 series victory.

"Asthma, hay fever put you at bigger risk of mental disorders"

Asthma and hay fever, two of the three most common allergy diseases other than eczema, is more dangerous than previously thought. According to a new study, if you suffer from asthma or hay fever, you could be at a greater risk of mental disorders.

Asthma and hay fever is very debilitating, and here is more bad news for patients. According to a new study, patients suffering these are also at an increased risk of psychiatric disorders. Both asthma and hay fever, along with eczema, are among the most common allergy diseasesthat effect people. A long-term inflammatory disease of the airways of the lungs, there is no cure for asthma and the symptoms can only be subdued by avoiding the triggers, such as allergens and irritants. In more extreme cases, patients need to inhale corticosteroids.
According to the new study, 11 % of patients with common allergic diseases developed a psychiatric disorder within a 15-year period, compared to only 6.7 % of those without - a 1.66-fold increased risk.
“Asthma, allergic rhinitis (hay fever) and atopic dermatitis (eczema), are among some of the most common allergic diseases and are nicknamed the three ‘A’s,” said lead author Nian-Sheng Tzeng from the Tri-Service General Hospital in Taiwan.
While previous studies have linked allergies with certain psychiatric or emotional disorders, this is the first study to find a connection between common allergies and the overall risk of developing psychiatric disorders, the researchers said.

The new research suggests that inflammation is linked to psychiatric disorders, such as depression and anxiety disorders. As allergies also involve inflammation, it is possible that it may contribute to psychiatric disorders in the same patients. The psychological stress of a psychiatric disorder might also contribute to physical symptoms.
For the study, published in the journal Frontiers in Psychiatry, the researchers identified 46,647 people in the database with allergic diseases and 139,941 without. The data also revealed that people with atopic dermatitis had a lower risk of developing a psychiatric disorder, while those with asthma and allergic rhinitis had a higher risk.
The team discovered that using certain asthma medications was associated with a lower risk of psychiatric disorders in asthma patients.

The findings suggested that almost 11 per cent of patients with common allergic diseases developed a psychiatric disorder within a 15-year period, compared to only 6.7 per cent of those without -- a 1.66-fold increased risk.

In a world first, a US veteran now, has a new ,penis and ,scrotum World's first total penis, scrotum transplant, done in ,US

"World's first total penis transplant in US"

WASHINGTON: Doctors at Johns Hopkins University said Monday they have performed the world's first total penis and scrotum transplant on a US military serviceman who was wounded in Afghanistan.

The 14-hour operation took place on March 26, and was performed by a team of nine plastic surgeons and two urologic surgeons.

"We are optimistic that he will regain near-normal urinary and sexual functions following a full recovery," W.P. Andrew Lee, professor and director of plastic and reconstructive surgery at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, told reporters on a conference call.

The patient was severely injured by a blast from an improvised explosive device in Afghanistan several years ago, Lee said.

The entire penis, scrotum without testicles and partial abdominal wall came from a deceased donor.

"It's a real mind-boggling injury to suffer; it is not an easy one to accept," said a statement from the recipient, who asked to remain anonymous.

"When I first woke up, I felt finally more normal."

He is now up and walking around, and is expected to be released from hospital this week.

The man lost his testicles in the explosion and did not get them restored as part of his transplant.

"The testicles were not transplanted because we had made a decision early in the program to not transplant germline tissue, that is to say not transplant tissue that generates sperm because this would raise a number of ethical questions," said JHU plastic surgeon Damon Cooney.

"In particular, the ability of the recipient of the transplant to have children would result in genetic material being transmitted from the donor of the transplanted tissue to the recipient's offspring," Cooney added.

"And we just felt there were too many unanswered ethical questions with that."

Doctors said they are hopeful he will be able to urinate with his penis in the coming weeks, and that he will eventually regain enough sensation to achieve an erection.

The patient retained his prostate gland in the blast, but since he lost his testicles, he will not be able to ejaculate.

Finland, to scrap,Finland Will End ,Universal Basic Income, scheme after two-year, trial
Finns are spending less and less on alcohol and more and more on services in Estonia.
The share of visitors who brought alcoholic beverages to Finland decreased from 81 per cent in 2014 to 69 per cent in 2017 and has continued to fall in 2018, according to interviews conducted at the border this year on commission from the Finnish Commerce Federation.
The government rejected a request from Kela, the country’s social security agency, for additional funding to expand the innovative two-year pilot program, meaning it will come to an end in January 2019, the Guardian reports.
The program, which Finland inaugurated in January 2017, saw 2,000 jobless people receive €560 ($685) per month without requiring them to work or seek employment. Recipients who found a job continued to receive the payments. In 2015, Finland’s unemployment rate had hit a 17-year high of 10%, prompting calls for welfare reform.

Across the country, 2,000 unemployed people between the ages of 25 and 58 were randomly selected for the experiment, which received international recognition for its potential impact on social security and was a European first.

Capitals-Blue Jackets Game 6: Washington wins series; Pittsburgh, Sidney Crosby next
Game 6
Washington Capitals 6, Columbus Blue Jackets 3
Series: Capitals win, 4-2

• Washington started the series with its back against a wall, but four straight wins push the Capitals through to Round 2.
• Top takeaways: Penalty kill, and that Alex Ovechkin guy, helped turn the series.
• A frantic start to the third period saw four goals in the first nine minutes, two by each team, but Washington never let Columbus get closer than 5-3. The Capitals added an empty-netter with 14 seconds remaining and won 6-4. Washington advances to face Pittsburgh in Round 2.
• Chandler Stephenson has impressed in his promotion to the top-six forward corps.
• Blue Jackets Coach John Tortorella has evolved, but he hasn’t lost his fire.
In a tight series, Washington’s back was to the wall, then it broke through
by Isabelle Khurshudyan
COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Washington Capitals celebrated like it was any other victory. Goaltender Braden Holtby straightened in net as his teammates calmly left the bench and skated over to hug him one-by-one. The mood in the locker room was happy but subdued.
The Caps rolled to a 6-3 win over the Jackets in Game 6 in Columbus on Monday night, finishing the series with four straight victories, three of them on the road and two of them in overtime. In doing so, the Caps made history - they're the first team ever to lose the first two games of a playoff series in overtime and at home, and to rebound from that early adversity to win the series.

What the Capitals’ 6-3 victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets in Game 6 of their first-round Stanley Cup playoff series gave the hockey world is what the hockey world wants, another matchup between Ovechkin’s Capitals and their chief nemesis, Sidney Crosby’s Pittsburgh Penguins. Nationally, that matchup may set up for punchlines at the Capitals’ expense, because they have met three times before and the results have been Penguins in seven, Penguins in six and Penguins in seven — the last two in each of the last two years, perhaps leaving the deepest, darkest scars on both Ovechkin and a Caps fan base that so desperately wants its captain and hero to break through that wall.

SWOT ANALYSIS
Defination:

" A study undertaken by an organization to identify its internal strengths and weaknesses, as well as its external opportunities and threats."

What is a 'SWOT Analysis'

SWOT analysis is a process that identifies an organization's strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. Specifically, SWOT is a basic, analytical framework that assesses what an entity (usually a business, though it can be used for a place, industry or product) can and cannot do, for factors both internal (the strengths and weaknesses) as well as external (the potential opportunities and threats)
Explanation:

Elements of a SWOT Analysis:

When using SWOT analysis, an organization needs to be realistic about its good and bad points. Analysis needs to be kept specific by avoiding gray areas and analyzing in relation to real-life contexts. For example, how do the organization’s products and services compare to those of competing firms? SWOT analysis should be short and simple, and should avoid complexity and over-analysis, as much of the information is subjective. Thus, companies should use it as a guide and not a prescription.

SWOT ANALYSIS FRAMEWORK

SWOT Analysis
  • Strengths: Describe what an organization excels at and separates it from the competition: things like a strong brand, loyal customer base, strong balance sheet, unique technology and so on.

  • Weaknesses: Stop an organization from performing at its optimum level. They are areas where the business needs to improve to remain competitive: things like higher-than-industry average turnover, high levels of debt, an inadequate supply chain or lack of capital.

  • Opportunities: Refer to favorable external factors that an organization can use to give it a competitive advantage.

  • Threats: Refers to factors that have the potential to harm an organization. For example, a drought is a threat to a wheat-producing company, as it may destroy or reduce the yield of the crop. Other common threats include things like rising costs for inputs, increasing competition, tight labor supply and so on.

Advantages of SWOT Analysis:

SWOT Analysis is instrumental in strategy formulation and selection. It is a strong tool, but it involves a great subjective element. It is best when used as a guide, and not as a prescription. Successful businesses build on their strengths, correct their weakness and protect against internal weaknesses and external threats. They also keep a watch on their overall business environment and recognize and exploit new opportunities faster than its competitors.
SWOT Analysis helps in strategic planning in following manner-
  1. It is a source of information for strategic planning.
  2. Builds organization’s strengths.
  3. Reverse its weaknesses.
  4. Maximize its response to opportunities.
  5. Overcome organization’s threats.
  6. It helps in identifying core competencies of the firm.
  7. It helps in setting of objectives for strategic planning.
  8. It helps in knowing past, present and future so that by using past and current data, future plans can be chalked out.

Examples of SWOT Analysis

Here is the strengths and Weaknesses of an Ice Cream Company.
StrengthsWeaknesses
  • Superior product with unique flavors that are difficult to duplicate
  • Loyal customer base supplying word of mouth marketing
  • Strong sales and a generous profit margin
  • Limited market penetration due to a single location
  • Time and labor intensive production process
  • Limited capital for expansion
  • Have trouble finding capable ice cream artisans
Opportunities and threats are external to the company. They represent things that could happen in the right conditions. Of course, that is a awfully broad guideline, so we can use the strengths and weaknesses above to narrow in on opportunities and threats that follow naturally from them. Here are some opportunities and threats facing Al’s Ice Cream:
OpportunitiesThreats
  • Increase the number of stores to access more customers
  • Focus on production and sell into retail food service
  • Buy new equipment to lower production time and labor
  • Start an artisanal ice cream class to train and recruit employees
  • Partner up to access more capital, raise it from private investors, or apply for government grants
  • Big ice cream brands are experimenting with artisan ice cream
  • Consumers are increasingly health-conscious
  • Local ingredients may become more expensive as restaurants and other big buyers focus on local food
  • Competitors have more marketing dollars

The Bottom Line:

SWOT analysis provides a visual overview that prompts discussion around a company’s situation.
The speed at which you can do a SWOT analysis and the flexibility of the format to evaluate different ideas and strategies are key reasons why this tool remains popular in business circles, and can be useful to investors as well.

what is meant by marketing| Marketing Mix| what meant of 4 Ps| Product|Price|Place|Promotion

April 20, 2018 0
what is meant by marketing| Marketing Mix| what meant of 4 Ps| Product|Price|Place|Promotion
Defination:
"The four Ps of marketing: product, price, place and promotion. The marketing mix can be divided into four groups of variables commonly known as the four Ps: Product: The goods and/or services offered by a company to its customers. Price: The amount of money paid by customers to purchase the product."

Marketing Mix – Product:

A product is an item that is built or produced to satisfy the needs of a certain group of people. The product can be intangible or tangible as it can be in the form of services or goods.
You must ensure to have the right type of product that is in demand for your market. So during the product development phase, the marketer must do an extensive research on the life cycle of the product that they are creating.
A product has a certain life cycle that includes the growth phase, the maturity phase, and the sales decline phase. It is important for marketers to reinvent their products to stimulate more demand once it reaches the sales decline phase.
Marketers must also create the right product mix. It may be wise to expand your current product mix by diversifying and increasing the depth of your product line.
All in all, marketers must ask themselves the question “what can I do to offer a better product to this group of people than my competitors”.
 Marketing Mix – Price:
The price of the product is basically the amount that a customer pays for to enjoy it. Price is a very important component of the marketing mix definition.
It is also a very important component of a marketing plan as it determines your firm’s profit and survival. Adjusting the price of the product has a big impact on the entire marketing strategy as well as greatly affecting the sales and demand of the product.
This is inherently a touchy area though. If a company is new to the market and has not made a name for themselves yet, it is unlikely that your target market will be willing to pay a high price.
Although they may be willing in the future to hand over large sums of money, it is inevitably harder to get them to do so during the birth of a business.
Pricing always help shape the perception of your product in consumers eyes. Always remember that a low price usually means an inferior good in the consumers eyes as they compare your good to a competitor.
Consequently, prices too high will make the costs outweigh the benefits in customers eyes, and they will therefore value their money over your product. Be sure to examine competitors pricing and price accordingly.
When setting the product price, marketers should consider the perceived value that the product offers. There are three major pricing strategies, and these are:
  • Market penetration pricing
  • Market skimming pricing
  • Neutral pricing
  • Marketing Mix- Place
  • Placement or distribution is a very important part of the product mix definition. You have to position and distribute the product in a place that is accessible to potential buyers.
This comes with a deep understanding of your target market. Understand them inside out and you will discover the most efficient positioning and distribution channels that directly speak with your market.
There are many distribution strategies, including:
    • Intensive distribution
    • Exclusive distribution
    • Selective distribution
    • Franchising
Marketing Mix – Promotion

Promotion is a very important component of marketing as it can boost brand recognition and sales. Promotion is comprised of various elements like:
      • Sales Organization
      • Public Relations
      • Advertising
      • Sales Promotion
Advertising typically covers communication methods that are paid for like television advertisements, radio commercials, print media, and internet advertisements. In contemporary times, there seems to be a shift in focus offline to the online world.
Public relations, on the other hand, are communications that are typically not paid for. This includes press releases, exhibitions, sponsorship deals, seminars, conferences, and events.
Word of mouth is also a type of product promotion. Word of mouth is an informal communication about the benefits of the product by satisfied customers and ordinary individuals. The sales staff plays a very important role in public relations and word of mouth.
It is important to not take this literally. Word of mouth can also circulate on the internet. Harnessed effectively and it has the potential to be one of the most valuable assets you have in boosting your profits online. An extremely good example of this is online social media and managing a firm’s online social media presence.
